Timber-Framed Cottage
Nestled in the lush, densely forested hills of the Odenwald, this timber-frame cottage underwent a complete renovation—from initial concept to final touches—while keeping its historic character as the focal point of every decision. The goal was not to transform it into a completely new entity, but to ensure it felt intrinsically like itself, just warmer, more inviting, and ready for a new chapter in its life.
Materials were either replicated or carefully chosen to respect the cottage's original character. This approach ensured that repairs and additions felt like a continuation of the home's legacy.
The kitchen features a striking herringbone cement floor and custom white cabinetry that embodies a fresh, light aesthetic while relating to traditional country design.
A custom-crafted walnut dining table bridges the gap between the clients' antique furnishings and a newer piece, blending the past and present.
The outcome is a cozy country home that feels both sheltered and open — a woodland cottage that has retained its soul, now offering the comfort, clarity, and ease that a thoughtfully renovated older house requires.
